Check out a Music Festival...
One of my favorite things to do in the summer is attend music festivals. In July and August British Columbia comes alive with music festivals and outdoor concerts featuring genres such as rock, country, roots and blues. Some are geared towards families, while others such as Sturgis North are geared towards an older crowd.

While some prefer to just come for the day, others like to camp out for the duration of the festival. Since good weather is never guaranteed, I recommend you bring an RV or ten-trailer but if you are on a budget a plain old tent will suffice. The camp sites are usually set up in an empty field with portable toilets and sometimes temporary shower trailers as well. When the music shuts down for the night, the parties in the campgrounds usually carry on so bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.
Many popular 70's and 80’s bands that once played large sold-out stadiums have re-grouped and joined the circuit giving music lovers a blast from the past. In the summer of 2011, the warm night air was filled with the sounds of Steppenwolf, Nazareth, The Headpins, Kick Axe, Helix, Colin James and many others.

In between acts, be sure to check out the vendors selling everything from coffee, donuts and hot dogs to t-shirts, cowboy hats, body piercing and body painting. Yes…body painting. The art of air-brushing is alive and well at festivals as people test drive their next tattoo or indulge in full body paint. At some of the bikers festivals women are known to walk around topless with a shirt painted on while the men like to walk around topless with a 6-pack painted on their abs…never a dull moment!
